Stevenson Retreat
An Alaskan getaway
with a touch of home.

Cooper Landing

Cooper Landing Cooper Landing is situated in the heart of the Kenai Peninsula, 100 miles south of Anchorage. The scenic drive from Anchorage brings you to a place where you can relax or bring your out of town guests. Another 125 miles will take you to Homer. Our quaint roadside town has been described as the "Gem of the Peninsula".

Summers in Cooper Landing offer world class fishing, biking, hiking, camping, rafting and horseback riding. It is the beauty of the mountains, the lakes and rivers that brought me to Cooper Landing. I like to refer to it as a stepping stone to heaven. It is the Alaska you come to see. Hamilton's Place in Cooper Landing Hamilton's Place

Shrew's Nest in Cooper Landing Shrew's Nest Autumn and winter inspired the opening of the Stevenson Retreat. In the fall you can feel a sense of peace as the trees change their colors. As the snow comes down the mountainsides and the river recedes, your winter activities could be hiking, snowmachining, cross-country skiing or walking on the river banks. It is not unusual to find fly fishermen casting their rods at the boat launch in January. My favorite thing is to just sit and look out the window as many species of birds provide entertainment from season to season.

Cooper Landing is a small town with everything. About 425 full time residents call Cooper Landing home. You will find a grocery store, hardware store, post office, library, and many summer activity businesses to pack your days full of fun. The Cooper Landing Museum Cooper Landing Museum The Cooper Landing Museum is worth a visit. You will also find a dirt runway and floatplane businesses to take you to more remote locations for a day of fly-in fishing or hunting.

Cooper Landing is the home of the Upper Kenai River and the Russian River. You will find anglers bank fishing or on guided boats. Both rivers offer salmon, rainbow trout and "dollies." Whether you are a fisherman or just enjoy watching others reel them in, you will want to visit the Russian River Ferry. Fishermen stand shoulder to shoulder; we call that combat fishing!
