JOB DESCRIPTION

PROGRAM ASSISTANT

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Present or assist with presenting educational outreach activities, programs, and training to community groups, such as Personal Safety and Children’s Programs to schools and major daycare providers, and Dating Violence Prevention, Conflict Resolution, violence prevention, and relationship skills programs to schools and other organizations, and general violence prevention education and other outreach to various community groups. 

Answer crisis line.

-      Provide shelter advocacy, crisis intervention, sexual assault and domestic violence victim support, information, referrals, child care and other services to clients, shelter residents and their children as needed.

-      Perform resident intakes and orient new residents to shelter as needed.

-      Enforce shelter rules and chores. 

-    Participate in required meetings and training.

-    Provide for community and regional outreach and education.

-    Aid with procurement of supplies for Community Outreach Program.  

-    Provide or assist with training to new staff, advocates, and volunteers.

-   Assist with USAFV fundraising activities. 

-   Maintain USAFV lending library and inventory of outreach materials.

-   Assist with the maintenance of USAFV’s clothing, household items, and food supplies.

-   Shelter cleaning and organization.

-   Assist with USAFV fundraising activities as needed.

-  Provide staff support to the USAFV Director, Client Services Coordinator, and Client Services Advocate.

-   Other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS : 

-  Knowledge or identification and reporting requirements in child abuse issues.

-  Good written and oral communication skills.

-  Public speaking experience a plus.

-  Knowledge of crisis intervention, victim advocacy, Alaska laws and legal system helpful.

-  Ability to abide by USAFV confidentiality agreements, and by Federal, State, and Local laws regarding domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, and elder abuse.

 

SUPERVISOR

Responsible to and reports directly to Director.

 

HOURS

Part-time Grant Funded Position, up to 20 hours per week.   Schedule varies based on agency needs.  Some nights and/or weekends will be required periodically.  Some travel required. 

Training will be provided.

The Unalaska/Port of Dutch Harbor Convention and Visitors Bureau is seeking a results oriented Executive Director to provide dynamic leadership to a well-established non-profit organization in the number one commercial fishing port in the United States, the International Port of Dutch Harbor.  Unalaska is a coastal community located in the Eastern Aleutian Islands with a multi-cultural population of approximately 4300 full-time residents with seasonal influxes from multiple commercial fishery operations.

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: This executive level position functions in an administrative capacity for the non-profit agency, UPDHCVB.  Under the general direction of a 5-person Board of Directors, manages and administers finances, grant applications, liaison with local and state agencies, oversees all activities of the Bureau, its subsidiaries, and other affiliates conducted in accordance with the UPDHCVB articles of incorporation, bylaws and formal policies.

 

EXAMPLES OF WORK: Provide effective leadership and direction while planning, directing, managing and supervising all administrative activities and operations of the UPDHCVB.  Develops and administers budgets, all financial functions, grant applications, and administration of membership dues.  Determines short and long-range plans, priorities, and marketing plan.  Develops policies and procedures. Prepares work schedules, expedites work-flow, and makes staffing decisions. Responsible for supervision, evaluations, hiring, staff development, and discipline.  Participates in government political process, including City Council meetings or other functions relating to the marketing of the city or businesses. Prepares and presents studies, plans, reports, position papers on matters of concern to the industry, and preparation of testimony for presentation to local officials and other governmental bodies through the Board of Directors.  Liaison with committees and other affiliates of the Bureau. Travel to trade shows and marketing meetings related to the visitor industry.  Establish and maintain an ongoing membership solicitation program.  Prepare for regular or special board meetings, annual membership drives, and committee work. Develop agency publications and marketing tools.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  Extensive knowledge of local attractions, sites, and infrastructure or ability to learn quickly. Proven experience in marketing, and dealing with local, state and federal officials.  Working knowledge of accounting principals, grant writing, and administrative procedures.  Excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to problem solve, and interpersonal skills.  Must demonstrate ability to maintain productive working relationships and experience with employment supervision.  Must have experience working with executive boards, councils, public, staff, and volunteers.  Fund-raising experience preferred.  Extensive travel required.  Must demonstrate sound knowledge of and adherence to Bureau by-laws.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  Minimum 5 years progressively responsible business experience.  Minimum two years experience in the visitor industry.  Alaska experience, Unalaska residents, and college degree preferred.  Other combinations of education and experience providing the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of this job may be evaluated on an individual basis.

 

LICENSE AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:   Valid Alaska Driver License or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.  Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.  As a condition of employment, this position is subject to a successful background check.
