I seem to be in trouble over the blogs folks. The blogs are causing some people at city hall grief
Note: The Mayor did not ask me to shut this site down. Note: The City Manager did not ask me to shut this site down. Do you want the blogs to continue? The blog site was started by the request of many people in town. People that wanted answers to questions and were afraid to ask because of retaliation.

Eloquently put, Jeff.
Thank you, Jeff, for putting my exact thoughts into words. Posted 10/30/06
Moses’ Write-In Campaign Looks Like Sour Grapes As a resident of Unalaska for the past decade and a half, I have supported Representative Carl Moses every time there has been an opportunity to vote for him. However, I was saddened and disappointed in his announcement to run a write-in campaign for the District 37 seat after losing fair and square to his opponent, Bryce Edgmon, in the primary election deciding coin toss. I find it disheartening that our long-time community leader and statesman would display such poor sportsmanship. I was shocked when his remarks after losing were that the Alaska State Law calling for the coin toss was “unfair to the voters”. Huh? I wonder if the flip had gone his way, if he would have then renounced the method as unfair and still called for a runoff election instead? I was angered by the decision of the City of Unalaska to allow the taxpayer-funded reception for the North Pacific Fisheries Management Council last month to turn into a political announcement and fundraiser for Moses' write-in campaign. It is one thing to turn the podium over to the ranking politician to fluff-up the event. It is yet another to notify the press in advance and allow the opportunity to turn into an unethical campaign event. Those were our tax dollars at work, folks. I have always found Rep. Moses to be approachable and friendly. I have enjoyed knowing him and all of his family, and appreciate all of their years of involvement and service to our community and to the region. Since losing the primary though, I have only heard Rep. Moses refer to Candidate Edgmon in bitter terms as a “Johnny-Come-Lately,” and, if this person thinks he can come in as a newbie and get anything done for the District then he (Edgmon) is in for a surprise. In contrast, throughout the campaign leading up to the primary election and since, I have heard nothing from Edgmon but respect and admiration for Moses’ years of service to the District. Representative Moses, why not go out as a mentor to a freshman Representative candidate, rather than as a write-in menace? If we as a community and you as our leader try so desperately to cling to power today, where will we be the next time the District 37 seat comes up to defend? Jeff Hancock 10/28/06
Can anyone tell me why write in candidate Moses is getting away with putting his signs up in City public spaces like in front of the Post office and in the City roads right of way? I thought the City had banned any such campaigning using the City right of way? Any info on this would be helpful. Can anyone post signs in the City right of way or is this just being allowed for Mr. Moses? Maybe it has something to do with his campaign manager working at City Hall. Posted 10/24/06
Rep Moses write-in campaign can win, but we need your support!!! Carl Moses’s write-in campaign for the District 37 House seat isn’t being done because he wants to be a spoiler or have a Republican get the seat. It is being done because many of his constituents asked him to do run as a write-in. Carl lost the election on a coin flip not because he had fewer votes. He has been an effective legislator for our district for 22 years, and he has done a great job for our communities, not just in the Aleutians, Alaska Peninsula, but in the Bristol Bay region as well. Rep Moses is respected on both sides of the aisle in Juneau and has always gotten more than his share of capital project dollars for the district. With all of the important issues facing this state in the next few year – gas pipeline, education funding, PERs/TERs mining, oil and gas issues – this is one of the most important elections in many years. Now isn’t the time to have a freshman legislator in Juneau who is most likely part of a minority that doesn’t have a chance to get any decent committee assignments. He certainly won’t be on the finance committee! Rep, Moses has been a longtime legislator, a small business owner, a fisherman and fishing vessel owner. Carl knows this district. He isn’t anti-development, and he won’t be dancing on the stings of anti-development forces that don’t want anything done in the region. The majority of the residents of this district don’t support the anti-development philosophy. Carl will make the call on projects in our district when all the facts are all in and the permitting process is approved. He knows and understands that the developments of the resources of this region are important to this district, for both employment and the revenues for our communities and villages to survive. Please join me in providing another amazing upset in District 37 by writing in Carl Moses for House Seat 37 on November 7th 2006. We need to keep this grassroots effort going! Get the word out and get the vote out in your community! Get posters out do a phone bank! We can do this. Have folks look at sample ballot it isn’t hard – just write in CARL MOSES, and fill in the circle next to his name. Frank Kelty Posted 10/24/06 |
