Temporary Security Officer

Distinguishing Characteristics:
The Security Officer position at the Ounalashka Corporation is a part-time temporary position during the summer.

The primary duty of the Temporary Security Officer is to patrol the recreational and other lands belonging to the Ounalashka Corporation to assure safety, regulatory and Corporation guidelines are being followed by authorized users. Work assigned to the Temporary Security Officer is performed under specific supervisory direction.

Much of the work may be performed outside in extreme weather conditions, and may require walking over difficult terrain. The work schedule varies and may include week-ends, holidays and evenings.

Examples of work: (May not include all of the duties performed)
Patrols Corporation lands by vehicle.
Records activities in a log.
Coordinates activities with City Public Safety Officers.
Ability to understand and remember where lease areas are located and report violations of lease terms and boundaries.
Performs other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
Ability to effectively deal with the public; ability to understand land use guidelines and recognize violations thereof; ability to operate light duty truck vehicles using proper safety standards and precautions; ability to drive a manual transmission; ability to work in extreme weather conditions for prolonged periods of time; ability to perform manual labor, including bending, stooping, climbing, reaching, lifting heavy objects, and walking through rough terrain; and the ability to follow directions and complete assigned tasks.

Recruitment Criteria:
Experience dealing effectively with the public.  A satisfactory equivalent combination of experience and training which ensures the ability to perform the work may be substituted for the required experience.  Knowledge of Ounalashka Corporation land holding and its tenants desirable.

Special Requirements:
Possession of a valid Alaska Driver’s license.  Neat and legible handwriting.
